Symmetry and Smoothing

The next step of the project was to use the NURBS smoothing on the Edit Poly menu to smooth the mesh. However, this did cause problems like splitting the nose shape into three distinct "bumps" (which has been fixed in the image below) and artifacting above the eyes. Also, the process highlighted puckering issues in the mesh - some of which still need to be fixed. I then applied the Symmetry modifier to mirror the face mesh to create a whole face.

After applying Symmetry and adjusting the settings so changes to the left also appeared on the right, the area around the centre of the mesh displayed mirror artifacts such as a chin on each side of the face (corrected by stretching the chin on one side towards the centre) and gaps in the centre between the two sides. This was corrected by moving the right half of the face closer.

Issues that need fixing here are the artifacts above the eyes, the lack of nostrils (the centre of the nose was removed as it did not look right) and the slightly flat forehead which can be shaped to improve the contour of the face.
